8 March 2017 – A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Common Tower Technologies Sdn Bhd (CTTSB) and PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, Tbk for international infrastructure collaboration. Indonesian and Brunei Telecom need to find another route (eastern route, especially towards US) to anticipate potential cable cut, growth of capacity demand, and better connectivity performance (lower latency and higher reliability). All cables are located in “western route” where frequent cable cuts occur (earthquake, storm, ships anchor, etc).
Opening a new Eastern Route towards USA & Europe to enhance Internet Connectivity in Brunei Darussalam and Eastern Malaysia (Sabah). Brunei, Eastern Malaysia (Sabah), and Indonesia are countries with high economic growth. Therefore those countries need to be supported by reliable connectivity so that can be connected to the whole ASEAN and to the world”.
